The core team of expert faculty members at IMMAST with their vast clinical experience and expertise has always strived hard to offer the latest and the best in the field of Minimal Access Surgery training to the course participants.
It gives us immense pleasure to announce the introduction of a new module on ‘Medical Thoracoscopy’ in Bronchoscopy course at IMMAST. This new module promises advanced learning for the delegates in:
- Understanding the philosophy and the set-up for thoracoscopy surgery including ergonomics
- Endo-vision systems and Hand instruments; the correct use
- Access techniques and trocar insertion
- Diagnostic Thoracoscopy – Localisation of biopsy
- Talc installation
- Intercostal drainage tube placement
A combination of viewing and working instruments help in accessing the pleural space during Medical Thoracoscopy/Pleuroscopy performed using the techniques of a minimally invasive procedure. Medical Thoracoscopy also allows performing the elemental diagnostic (undiagnosed pleural fluid or pleural thickening) and therapeutic procedures (pleurodesis) safely.
Indeterminate pleural fluid, abnormal pleura and need for pleurodesis are some of the primary indications for Medical Thoracoscopy. Experience and knowledge of pleural and thoracic anatomy along with mature judgement in interpreting radiographic images related to pleural diseases coupled with surgical skill training are essential for performing Medical Thoracoscopy.
The course design and training imparted in this new module promise to give enough confidence to the surgeons and physicians in handling the scope and carry out the Medical Thoracoscopy. The course promises to increase their horizon of treatment for their patients.
Specially developed computerised simulator – the Bronchomentor can simulate different situations ideal for training the participants. Extensive hands-on training offered at IMMAST gives much-needed confidence to the participants.
