Dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR is one of the most common oculoplastics surgery performed for treatment of nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO). In the past, external Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) was considered as the gold standard treatment for NLDO. Despite the satisfactory results reached, the traditional external approach has the disadvantage of requiring a skin incision and a consequent local scar.

Sufficient vidence is now available to show endoscopic DCR can be performed in acute dacryocystitis/lacrimal abscesses successfully. In addition, the use of endoscopic equipment has changed the understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the pathology and management of lacrimal diseases.

Although the ‘book knowledge’ for the procedure is included in some curricula, training for the surgical technique is not. While surgeons require the core knowledge base to diagnose and treat the condition, the importance of acquiring surgical psychomotor skills cannot be overlooked.

IMMAST offers aspiring surgeons a unique platform to learn A-Z of the technique from the masters under their personal supervision, with intense hands-on training on ingenious animal tissue models that have near-life haptic.
