Dedication Commitment towards hands-on training in Minimal Access Surgery

Institute of Medical and Minimal Access Surgery Training (IMMAST) was established with a purpose to advance, and progress of MAS continues in India in a structured manner.

It was the perfect combination of the vision, dedication&commitment from two individuals Dr Mrs Sybill Storz & Prof. Tehemton E. Udwadia that such futuristic centre could come into existence in Mumbai.

Dr Mrs Sybill Storz, Chairperson, Karl Storz GmbH & KG, Tuttlingen, Germany had an altruistic desire free from all commercial interest or intent to create a Training Center in Mumbai solely for education & academics of Indian Surgeons. Being a great visionary, she built a state-of-the-art Center, not for profit.

Over the last four decades, Prof. Tehemton E. Udwadia has been making relentless efforts to spread Laparoscopy in the Indian Sub-continent. Having held countless ‘workshops’ since the ’70s where the participants would register, pay their fees, attend the ‘workshop’, and had no access to any further guidance, Prof. Udwadia always had the vision to create an autonomous Center, run by surgeons for surgeons. At such Center, every participant trained would remain as Alumni for continuing training and mentoring in perpetuity. Such was his vision due to which, today, IMMAST is one of its kind Training Center that offers Multi-Speciality Minimal Access Surgery Training Courses.

Over 5000 surgeons have been trained so far at IMMAST in all different surgical specialities where Minimal Access Surgery is performed. This number itself is a fitting tribute to the vision, dedication and commitment of Dr Mrs Sybil Storz and Prof. Tehemton E. Udwadia for their painstaking efforts towards hands-on training in Minimal Access Surgery.

IMMAST is an ISO 9001:2015 Certified Organisation with world-class, state-of-the-art infrastructure. Complete adherence to the Systems and Processes differentiates IMMAST in its disciplined approach. With over 300 eminent faculty members with comprehensive clinical experience and expertise, IMMAST is committed to ‘teaching a surgeon’ & not just a procedure.
