Flexible Bronchoscopy

We all have witnessed improvements in health over the last century thanks to the advances in respiratory medicine. Respiratory medicine has also played a pivotal role in the understanding of the molecular basis of disease, particularly about asthma, cystic fibrosis and lung cancer. A wide range of pathology presented by various respiratory disorders, gives ample opportunity for learning new skills, sub-specialisation and thereby the ultimate satisfaction of improving the health of others.

From cancer management to interventional diagnostic procedures, bronchoscopy is one of the most commonly performed procedures. The respiratory physician plays a significant role in the modern multidisciplinary team approach to screening as well as some therapeutic interventions.

Bronchoscopy Course offered by IMMAST is therefore aptly termed as one of the most ‘Versatile’ course ever launched at IMMAST. This course has seen participation from diverse specialities of physicians and surgeons including:

  • General Medicine Physicians
  • Paediatricians & Paediatric Surgeons
  • Cardiovascular Surgeons
  • ENT Surgeons
  • Anaesthetists
  • Intensivists

Training in Flexible Bronchoscopy & its nuances is the main highlight of this comprehensive two-day course. Eminent pulmonologist and bronchoscopist Dr Prahlad Prabhudesai mentors the participants through in-depth lectures as well as hands-on training. The participant: faculty ratio at IMMAST ensures that participants get enough and more opportunities to engage with the faculty member and gain maximum confidence in the procedure.

Rigid Bronchoscopy is usually indicated for foreign body extraction including bleeding or haemorrhage, to get more rooted biopsy specimen when the fibre-optic specimen is inadequate. The procedure is also used in other indications such as dilation of tracheal or bronchial strictures, relief of airway obstruction, insertion of stents and even in Paediatric Bronchoscopy. The course at IMMAST puts a particular focus on foreign body removal while training in Rigid Bronchoscopy.
